Costa Rica is back with a bang this year and we could not be more excited to share our first Costa Rican coffee of the year with you. This one is a true stunner aiming at those who enjoy the fruit forward realm of the coffee world.
This coffee comes from Tarrazú which is Costa Rica’s most productive and arguably most famous coffee region. Producers at high elevations have become known for producing amazing coffees with tropical fruit notes and wine like intensity and complexity.
Los Madrigal Micro mill is managed by Diego Armando Madrigal Ureña in Tarrazú. There are three farms delivering cherry to this micro mill encompassing a total of 25 hectares. The farms here were inherited by Diego and his brother from his grandfather when they were only 11 and 13 years old, so they grew up knowing coffee farming was likely in their future. This lot is comprised of catuai and caturra varieties from their farm Finca El Analia grown at 1800 meters above sea level. Only the ripest cherries are picked and sorted then carefully dried on raised beds.
The resulting cup is intensely sweet, fruity and complex with notes of passion fruit, black currant and red wine.
