     Of all the coffees we carry throughout the year and in spite of its high price tag, Kona coffee remains one of the most requested coffees in our catalogue.  We are excited to release our first coffee from Kona this year.  This is an early harvest lot from a new producer we are working with called Rooster Farms.  They are a husband-and-wife duo that moved from NYC to live on the farm and practice a regenerative farming lifestyle.  They purchased this land and learned from the first organic certified farmer in Kona, Mike Craig. This is a lot assembled from their farm and 3 of their neighbors all within a 4 mile radius.  They all share the same mill and picking practices.  They focus on the ripest cherries and on meticulous care in processing.  They practice regenerative agriculture techniques in order to keep the farm and the trees thriving without chemical inputs or pesticides, trusting that this will allow their trees to maintain vigor and produce the best tasting cherries for years to come.
     This is one of the best examples of Kona coffee we have had the pleasure of tasting in a long time and we hope to continue working with Ed, Tara and their team for years to come.  The Extra Fancy label isn't just a nice sounding title; it denotes that this is the most well sorted and best prepped lot of all of the offerings available.  The work to prepare this lot is truly meticulous and it shows.  We find notes of bittersweet cocoa, fig and green apple in the cup.  We offer this as a medium roast to balance the pleasant but mild acidity along with the deep sweetness and full body of these large screen-sized beans.  If you are a fan of Kona coffees, this one is sure to deliver the goods!
