Our latest EA decaf is something special and new to us, a washed processed Ethiopian coffee from the Jimma zone. Jimma is one of the traditional coffee producing regions of Ethiopia, situated north of the famous Yirgacheffe.
This particular mill - Telila Washing Station - is situated near Kecho Anderacha in Gera woreda. The washing station is owned by Mike Mamo. Mike is a coffee exporter and also partner in Osito, the importer for this coffee. In 2019 he decided to buy this Washing Station, and this year we were fortunate to sample this washed coffee from Telila sent for EA decaffeination at DESCAFECOL in Manazales.
The actual process requires the coffee to be first 'steamed' to open up its pores. Next, the E.A. is applied via water, which dissolves the caffeine in the green coffee. Then the caffeine is separated and filtered from the tank. Finally, the now-decaffeinated seeds are steamed again to remove any residual E.A. before being dried and shipped.
Most of the cherry being delivered are one of two varieties; Gibirinna 74110 and Serto 74112. Both of these are from the Metu Bishari selections made in the forest of the same name in the Illubabor Zone by the Jimma Agricultural Research Center (JARC) in 1974. They were selected for their resistance to Coffee Berry Disease. Now they are some of the most propagated varieties in Ethiopia.
For those of you who like the lighter and sweeter coffees will love this one. It is one of the best decaffeinated coffees we have had the privilege to taste and we are excited to share it with everyone. For the days and times when you don't want as much of a jolt but still want a great coffee that you can drink straight up, this is the one for you!
We ship freshly roasted coffee Monday through Friday via UPS ground. Most orders placed before 2pm EST will ship same day.
Delayed, Lost or Stolen Packages
We will do our best to help troubleshoot with you, but we
cannot control what happens when your package leaves the roasting
facility. Once the package has been picked up, it is out of our hands.
Holidays, severe weather, carrier staff shortage and high package volumes are causing delays in package transit time.
As a small business, we are unable to absorb the costs of
packages being lost in transit. We cannot refund orders that are marked
as delivered with a tracking number, even if a customer is stating they
haven’t received the package.
For UPS claims, please email us at georgio@georgioscoffee.com
When checking out, *Please make sure your address is correct!*
In order to balance getting your coffee out to
you as quickly as possible with freshness of roast we ship all coffee as
ordered within one week of the roast date. We typically roast
Wednesdays and Fridays.
In our experience most coffees
taste best after a few days rest, and high quality coffees stay at peak
flavor up to six weeks post roast.
